Dr. Daniel Pipes, the eminent scholar of Islam and the Middle East, has been nominated to serve on the Board of Directors of the United States Institute of Peace, a government agency that studies and offers policy recommendations regarding conflicts around the world.


Dr. Pipes’s important research on Islamic extremism and supporters of terrorism has played a crucial role in educating Americans about the terrorist threat, especially in the wake of 9/11.


Some Muslim extremist groups are lobbying to block the nomination Dr. Pipes. Moderate Muslims, by contrast, have endorsed the nomination.


The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee will consider the nomination on July 23, 2003. Please call or fax these members of the committee as soon as possible to let them you know you support the Pipes nomination:
