Abbas’ P.A. Calls Major Israeli Cities “Occupied Cities”

Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority (PA) continues to inculcate hostility to Israel’s existence and denial of the legitimacy of a Jewish state through the PA-controlled media.

Official PA TV continues to teach children that all of Israel is “occupied Palestine.”’ A repeating message on the children’s show The Best Home, currently broadcast three times a week during the month of Ramadan, is that all Israeli cities are “occupied” Palestinian cities.

The following are examples from three of the TV programs in which the PA TV host refers to Israeli cities as “occupied Palestinian cities.”

In one program broadcast on August 25,  the TV host asked a girl, “You live in Jerusalem. Do you visit the 1948 occupied cities (Israeli cities)?”’ when she replies that she’s been to Hebron, the host cavils, saying, “No, Hebron is a city [in the PA] that we all can enter. The occupied cities – such as Lod, Ramle, Haifa, Jaffa, Acre (all Israeli cities) – have you visited them? … We hope all children of Palestine will be able to go to the occupied territories, which we don’t know and have never been able to see. Personally, I have never been there” (PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 25, 2010).

In another program on August 22, the TV host said, “No doubt you’ve all been waiting to know lots of things about Ramadan in those days, in some of the occupied areas, in the occupied territories. Today we’ll find out lots about Jaffa in those days of Ramadan” (PA TV (Fatah), August 22, 2010). And in another program aired on August 24, the host asked the children, “Don’t you want to see Ramadan from those days in an occupied Palestinian city, to which we hope to return?” (PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 24, 2010, translations courtesy of Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik, ‘PA TV to kids: Israeli cities Haifa, Jaffa, Lod, Ramle, Acre are all “occupied cities,”’ Palestinian Media Watch bulletin, August 29, 2010).

The ZOA has previously described other examples of Palestinian repudiation and denial of Jewish sovereignty and insistence that Israel is “occupied Palestine.”

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, “These are but the latest examples of Palestinian school-age children being indoctrinated in direct and indirect ways to consider Israel non-existent and Palestinians entitled to everything encompassed by Israel.

“These latest PA TV broadcasts are no less disturbing than previous cases of erasing Jewish national, political and religious history from PA publications because they indicate that no change for the better has taken place in Palestinian education over the past few years.”
