The Zionist Organization of America is delighted to honor United States Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri with its prestigious Steven Sass Righteous Friend of Zion Award at this year’s ZOA SPEAK OUT FOR ISRAEL DINNER on December 3, 2023 in New York.
Most recently Senator Schmitt took a strong stance on the importance of providing stand-alone support to Israel, and pushed to provide billions of dollars in aid to Israel in the wake of the 10/7 Hamas massacre of Jews.
The ZOA strongly appreciated Senator Schmitt’s condemnation of President Biden’s appointment of Jack Lew as Ambassador to Israel, in part due to his deeply troubling soft stance on Iran, and Lew’s support for the viciously anti-Israel U.N. Resolution 2334, which stated that all land past the 1967 line is Arab land.
Senator Schmitt stated that “Jack Lew is simply not the right person to be America’s ambassador to our longtime and strong ally, Israel. Lew was the architect of the failed and dangerous Iran Nuclear Deal. Iran is the world’s number one state-sponsor of terrorism and the primary funder of Hamas terrorism – we don’t need a soft-on-Iran ambassador to Israel. Biden and Lew both have capitulated to Iran in the past – this fact alone should immediately disqualify him.”
Prior to that, in 2021, while serving as Missouri Attorney General, Senator Schmitt led a 12-state coalition urging Ben & Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, to reverse the ice cream maker’s decision to boycott Israel.
We deeply appreciate Senator Schmitt’s strong support for the Jewish State of Israel and his support for the ZOA and its mission. Senator Schmitt is truly deserving of this important ZOA award.
