90% of Gaza Weapons
Come from Egypt

NEW YORK- The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) is urging the Bush administration to pressure Egypt to stop the massive smuggling of weapons from Egyptian territory through underground tunnels to Palestinian Arab terrorists in Gaza.

Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said on Israel Television Channel 2 on May 19, 2004, that “the weapons now on the Egyptian side that are about to be smuggled into the Gaza Strip if Israel does not stop the smuggling, leaves Israel with no choice but to continue the operation.” Mofaz mentioned that among the weapons in the pipeline on the Egyptian side are Sager anti-aircraft missiles and Katyusha rockets.

Israeli cabinet minister Natan Sharansky said on the Anne Coulter Radio Show on May 19, 2004, that “90% of the weapons in Gaza came through the tunnels from Egypt.”

Israel Television military correspondent Ronnie Daniel asked Mofaz: “why doesn’t Egypt act as required by the treaty and stop the smuggling?” Mofaz replied: “we have asked the Egyptians numerous times to act and wish that they would.” (translation courtesy of IMRA)

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said: “Israel’s demolition of some Arab homes is made necessary by the fact that those homes are used as the entrance ways to the tunnels. Instead of criticizing Israel’s legitimate self-defense actions, as Secretary Powell and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice have been doing, they should be pressuring Egypt to stop the flood of weapons which is what is forcing Israel to take action in Gaza in the first place. The United States gives Egypt $2.2-billion each year it has plenty of leverage to make the Egyptians stop the flood of terrorist weapons going to Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Palestinian Authority in Gaza.”
