ZOA Letter to NY Times Magazine Correcting Mischaracterization of ZOA
News
January 5, 2015

To the Editor,

Jason Horowitz referred to the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), of which I am President, as a “right-wing group.”(Can Liberal Zionists Count on Hillary Clinton, 12-17 and 21 ,2014, NY Times Magazine, Jason Horowitz, p.18)  That appellation is inaccurate. The ZOA did correctly warn that the Oslo Peace agreements of 1993 would lead to disaster. Why? Because Yasser Arafat, leader  of the Palestinians, was still a terrorist who fulfilled none of his treaty obligations to end incitement to violence against Israel; did not outlaw terrorist groups such as Hamas, and refused to even show Israel on any of his maps. And ZOA’s position against unilaterally handing over Gaza to the Palestinians, again predicting a disaster turned out to be true. These positions were simply rational centrist-not right wing. Our position against a Palestinian State is because of an understandable fear it will become another terrorist state as Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinians, continues to promote violence, allied himself with Hamas, and won’t even negotiate with Israel. Truth is not a political position.
