Let’s Stop Acting As If Abbas Is Peace Partner
News Press Release
November 6, 2014

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has pointed to new examples of Palestinian Authority (PA)‘s Holocaust-denying dictator (no elections since elected for a 4-year term in 2005) Mahmoud Abbas supporting the murder of Jews and praising their perpetrators. The ZOA believes that we should cease acting as though Abbas is a peace partner –– he’s not.

In a condolence letter to the family of Palestinian Arab terrorist Mutaz Hijazi, who was killed following his attempted murder of Rabbi Yehuda Glick last week in Jerusalem, Abbas referred to Hijazi as a shahid [martyr] who “rose to Heaven while defending our people’s rights and holy places.” Abbas also described Israel’s apprehension and killing the terrorist in a shoot-out as an “abominable crime … by the killing and terror gangs of the Israeli occupation army” (PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 3, 2014, translation in ‘Abbas glorifies shooter of Rabbi Glick,’ Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) bulletin, November 3, 2014).

“The ZOA calls upon the Obama Administration and the U.S. Congress to publicly condemn these latest Abbas/PA’s vile pro-terror, anti-peace acts.”

The ZOA believes it is high time to cease pretending that Abbas is a genuine moderate and peace partner, noting that Abbas, along with arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat, was a founder of Fatah, the party controlling the PA and whose armed wing, the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, is a U.S. listed terrorist organization. The ZOA also notes that Abbas helped to fund the terrorist operation that resulted in the murder of the eleven Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, has also stated last week that Abbas “educates Palestinian children to hate Jews, and wants a Palestinian state free of Jews.” None of this should actually be shocking, because Abbas after all signed a unity government agreement with Hamas, the U.S.- and European Union-listed terrorist organization.

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, “It is simply astonishing, immoral and deeply damaging to the cause of peace that the world, including the Obama Administration, takes no notice of Palestinian Arab incitement to hatred and murder and the open, shameless glorification of any Palestinian Arab who tries to or succeeds in murdering even a single Jew.

“This is not an exceptional act on the part of Abbas or the PA. Only the other week, Abbas adviser, Sultan Abu Al-Einein, praised the terrorist, Abd Al-Rahman Al-Shaloudi, who murdered three-month-old Israeli-American baby, Haya Zissel-Brown, and injured 8 others, when he intentionally drove his car into people waiting for a train.

“When called upon by five members of the U.S. Congress to condemn and dismiss Al-Einein, Abbas refused to remove or condemn Abu Al-Einein.

“And that’s not all. In recent days

  • The PA/Fatah has published cartoons on its Facebook page urging Palestinian Arabs to ‘hit the gas’ –– run over Israelis –– in emulation of the Al-Shaloudi’s act of terrorism and child-murder –– something which just occurred yesterday when a Palestinian terrorist killed one Israeli and wounded at least 13 others by ploughing his van into a crowd of pedestrians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called this terrorist attack ‘a direct response to incitement by Abu Mazen [Mahmoud Abbas] and his colleagues in Hamas.’
  • The PA mouthpiece, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, has published cartoons to perform rock throwing against Israelis as a form of religious ‘purification.’

“It is unequivocally clear that the Abbas/PA is not a genuine peace partner.

“Any of these PA acts should have resulted in strong public condemnation by President Obama. Instead, President Obama seems to be upset only when Israel announces it is building homes in Jewish neighborhoods of eastern Jerusalem that would remain in Israel under any conceivable peace agreement.

“The ZOA calls upon the Obama Administration and the U.S. Congress to publicly condemn these latest Abbas/PA vile pro-terror, anti-peace acts.”
