ZOA & Log Cabin Republicans Worked Together to Confirm Ric Grenell as Amb. to Germany
News Press Release
May 18, 2018

Washington, DC & New York, NY — Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) President Morton A. Klein and Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory T. Angelo released the following joint statement:

The ZOA and Log Cabin Republicans, a national organization representing LGBT conservatives and straight allies, wish to thank and praise one another for their respective efforts promoting the Senate confirmation of eminently qualified diplomat Richard Grenell as our new U.S. Ambassador to Germany. Ambassador Grenell is a great friend of Israel.

ZOA President Morton A. Klein stated:

“ZOA thanks Log Cabin Republicans for their excellent work promoting Ambassador Grenell’s confirmation. Log Cabin Republicans, along with its activists throughout the country, ran a comprehensive communications, grassroots, and coalitions campaign; partnered with prominent individuals; and demanded that United States Senators support Ambassador Grenell. (See, e.g., “Donald Trump Jr. and Log Cabin Republicans Slam Democrats for Stalling Richard Grenell Appointment,” by Charlie Nash, Breitbart, Feb. 8, 2018.)”

Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory T. Angelo stated:

“Some may find Log Cabin Republicans and the Zionist Organization of America to be unlikely partners, but the complementary work we did to ensure Ambassador Grenell’s confirmation came naturally. Morton Klein and his team at ZOA should be commended for the work they did praising those U.S. Senators who publicly called for Grenell’s confirmation, urging additional senators to confirm Ambassador Grenell, doing extraordinary behind the scenes work on this issue, and holding those standing in his way accountable. (See, e.g., ZOA March 22, 2018 press release.) I would be more than happy to see Log Cabin Republicans join forces with ZOA again in the future as we fight to advance strong U.S. Israel relations, promote the truth of the Islamist war against Israel, America and the West; and promote human rights, freedom, and peace at home and abroad.”

ZOA President Morton A. Klein added:

“ZOA is also pleased to learn of Log Cabin Republicans’ strong support for Israel, and continuing active opposition to the catastrophic Iran deal, Iran’s sponsorship of terrorism, and Iran’s abominable human rights record. (See, e.g., “Gay GOP Group Blasts ‘Bad’ Iran Nuclear Deal,” by Michael K. Lavers, Washington Blade, July 15, 2015.) It makes eminent sense that thoughtful members of the LGBT community support Israel and oppose the Iranian regime. The same radical Islamists who scream and plot for “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” also brutally execute hundreds of persons even suspected of being homosexual. Iran also opposes women’s rights, imprisons those critical of Iran’s terrorist regime, and closes down newspapers hostile to the regime. ZOA hopes that we will work with Log Cabin Republicans in the future on such issues of mutual concern.”
