Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein released the following statement:
The Biden State Department and outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides continue to illegally, hypocritically and wrongly threaten, harass, bully, insult, patronize, demean, blame and pressure Israel. Meanwhile, the Biden administration refuses to condemn Palestinian Arab terrorists by name; remained silent about rocket launches from the Palestinian Authority (PA); and fails to publicly condemn PA dictator Mahmoud Abbas’ and PA Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh’s incitement of murder and outrageous “pay to slay” payments to terrorists to murder Jews and Americans. The Biden administration does not treat other allies the unconscionable way that the administration treats Israel. Here are some of the latest instances of this (in addition to the instances we reported less than two weeks ago):
Selectively “Not Standing By”: On June 22, during an address to young Israelis and Palestinian Arabs in Tel Aviv, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides said the Biden administration “will not stand by and watch settler violence occur.”
So why does the Biden administration continue to “stand by” in silence when PA leaders Abbas and Shtayyeh incite and pay Arabs to murder Jews – and when Arabs murder, maim and attack innocent Jews and their property every single day? Moreover, the Biden administration continues to indirectly fund these payments to murder Jews by paying the Palestinian Authority’s bills.
And why does the Biden administration “stand by” when left wing former Israeli prime ministers and NGOs promote dangerous demonstrations that do enormous civilian damage and shut down Israel’s airport and infrastructure? In fact, the Biden State Department funded a major NGO leading these demonstrations. (See “ZOA Condemns U.S. State Dept. Funding Anti-Israel Protest Organizers in Israel,” Mar. 13, 2023.)
And why does the Biden administration “stand by” while Muslim rioters are burning down France and Sweden and attacking Swedish diplomatic posts in the Middle East?
The Biden administration’s focus on primarily condemning Israel is unconscionable – and antisemitic.
Selectively “Expecting” Accountability, Legal Action and Restitution Against Jews: At the U.S. State Department press briefing on June 28, 2023, principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel welcomed the IDF’s and Israeli Defense Minister Gallant’s and Israeli security officials’ condemnation of “settler violence against Palestinian citizens,” but then demanded that the Biden administration: “expect[s] the Israeli Government to ensure full accountability for those responsible for those attacks, including legal action and restitution of lost homes and properties as they deem appropriate. And we regularly raise this issue broadly with our Israeli counterparts.”
So why is it that the Biden administration never demands that the PA ensure “full accountability” for the Palestinian Arabs responsible for murdering Israeli civilians? (Arabs murdered 24 innocent Israelis, including young children, since just the beginning of 2023.)
Why does Biden administration never demand restitution for the billions of dollars of damage that Arab terrorists inflicted on Israeli cars and property, in riots in May 2021, and daily attacks on Israelis and their property?
Why does the Biden administration never demand that France and Sweden ensure full accountability and restitution by the Muslim mobs who are burning and rioting throughout their countries?
And, in its own backyard, why does the Biden administration never insist on accountability and full restitution to the victims of the widespread Black Lives Matter riots in the United States?
The Biden administration’s hypocrisy was further revealed during the same June 28, 2023 State Department briefing, when spokesman Patel was asked about events in Sweden. (There was massive Muslim rioting in Sweden and several Muslim Middle East countries after an Iraqi protestor burned a Koran in Stockholm.) The State Dept. spokesman never said that Swedish government must ensure that the Muslim rioters are held responsible for their attacks and pay restitution. Instead, the U.S. State Dept. spokesman criticized the burning of the Koran as “disrespectful and hurtful”; stated, “I will let the Government of Sweden and local law enforcement speak specifically or more about this particular incident”; and encouraged agreement into Sweden’s entry into NATO “as soon as possible.”
Threatening U.S. Cooperation, Visa Waiver and Abraham Accords: Also on July 28, 2023, in a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations, when asked about so-called “settlement expansion” (meaning Jews on rare occasion building homes in the Jewish homeland) and expansion of violence, Biden’s Secretary of State Antony Blinken implicitly threatened Israel’s foreign relations saying, “We’ve told our friends and allies in Israel that if there’s a fire burning in their backyard, it’s going to be a lot tougher, if not impossible, to actually both deepen the existing agreements as well as to expand them to include potentially Saudi Arabia.”
And on July 2, 2023, Biden administration officials reportedly threatened and blackmailed Israel, stating that indigenous Jews building homes in the Jewish heartlands of Judea/Samaria, and “lack of a firm hand in dealing with violence against Palestinians” will harm relations with Gulf countries; harm prospects for a normalization deal with Saudi Arabia; and endanger U.S.-Israel cooperation, including Israel’s continuing, much-delayed entry into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. This U.S. blackmail may be causing miscarriages of justice against innocent Jews. The Israeli government has reportedly detained without trial the Jewish friends of the Jewish teenagers who were recently murdered by Arab terrorists. (See “Detainees’ Families Up Fight: ‘The U.S. Wants Victims So Our Son Is A Victim Without Trial’,” by Hezki Baruch, Israel Nat’l News, July 2, 2023.)
Again, the Biden administration never makes similar threats against any other ally. It’s time for the Biden administration to stop threatening and condemning Israel when indigenous Jews build homes in the Jewish homeland. And it’s time for the Biden administration to stop its hypocritical demands, attempting to dictate internal law enforcement matters to an Israeli government which is already condemning and acting against alleged lawbreakers.
