ZOA Coalition’s Strong Showing in the 2025 World Zionist Congress Elections Resulting in the Right-of-Center Winning a Majority of the Seats

Dear Friends,

ZOA Coalition warmly thanks all our voters and candidates for supporting the distinguished ZOA Coalition in the 2025 World Zionist Congress election! In the preliminary results announced last night, ZOA Coalition ranked in the top third#7 out of 22 slates.

In addition, we are thrilled that the right-leaning slates secured a majority of the vote – a very important victory.  We congratulate all the slates that contributed to this success.

We are also pleased that key new slates ideologically aligned with us advised us that they will follow the ZOA Coalition’s lead and work alongside us at the World Zionist Congress. We look forward to working together to advance our strong pro-Israel agenda.

At the World Zionist Congress, we will vigorously represent our candidates, voters, and coalition organizations. As we previously wrote, all ZOA Coalition members and organizations are invited to submit draft resolutions and WZO Constitutional amendments for consideration at the upcoming WZC. Please send your drafts by mid-July to [email protected] and [email protected].

ZOA Coalition is proud of our strong showing of our and our ideologically-aligned slates, and we are looking forward to strongly representing our pro-Israel agenda at the WZC.  But we do want to make it clear why we didn’t do even better this year.  Factors involved:  (1) Splitting – Two significant groups who were part of the 2020 ZOA Coalition slate split off to run two new separate slates.  ZOA Coalition outperformed both new slates.  However, if we were still unified on the same slate, ZOA Coalition would have significantly increased its total votes in 2025.  (2) Institutional Advantages – Three of the six slates ahead of us benefited from built-in congregational voting constituencies (e.g., the Reform movement’s 800 synagogues).  (3) Incentives – Other slates used raffle entries for major prizes (cars, trips to Israel, etc.), which we believed were prohibited under election rules.  (4) Voting System Issues – Many ZOA Coalition voters encountered difficulties obtaining PIN codes, etc.  (5) Fragmentation – The division of the “right” into so many different slates resulted in most existing slates on the “right” receiving a lower percentage than in the previous election.

Unfortunately, the fragmentation of the “right” into multiple slates led to at least one, possibly two, right-leaning slates failing to secure enough votes for even a single delegate—wasting their votes entirely.  (ZOA Coalition had invited one of those slates to join us, but that slate ran alone, with that result.)  This fragmentation will likely also result in lost overage votes on the “right.”  This underscores the need to all work together in the upcoming World Zionist Congress, and to avoid so much fragmentation in future elections.

Meanwhile, ZOA Coalition will proudly move forward with promoting our vital agenda fighting for Israel and fighting against Jew-hatred.

Thank you for your continued support!

Warmly,

ZOA Coalition
