Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y continues

Vail Daily

Daily Staff Report
Vail CO, Colorado
October 7, 2007

On Monday evening, B’Nai Vail Congregation presents its second free community fall program of the 92nd Street Y satellite series with Caroline Glick, the deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post. Glick will discuss Israel’s future and its unique role in combating global terrorism. Caroline Glick is an Israeli American journalist and currently the deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post and a Senior Fellow of the Middle East Affairs at the D.C. based Center for Security Policy.

Glick moved to Israel immediately after graduating from Columbia University, she served as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces, and held a key government position on the negotiation team during the Oslo talks under former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. She later served as an assistant policy advisor to the prime minister.

During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the widely-published Glick was an embedded journalist with the U.S. Army’s Third Infantry Division — the first division to reach Baghdad. She was awarded a distinguished civilian service award from the U.S. Secretary of the Army for her battlefield reporting. Caroline has also been a senior researcher at the IDF’s Operational Theory Research Institute (which is Israel’s defense establishment’s most prestigious think tank).

Glick is featured as an expert speaker on the documentaries “Relentless: the Struggle for Peace in Israel” and “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West.” She is known for writing powerful editorials, (which are sometimes controversial) and isn’t fearful of taking offensive stands. She is prolific in the press, writing two editorials a week. Her opinions and expertise is referred to often, and can be found in relationship to most Middle East issues. She has received numerous awards including “the most prominent Woman in Israel,” by the Israeli newspaper Maariv; the 2005 Zionist Organization of America’s Ben Hecht award for outstanding Journalism, and Israel’s Media Watch 2006 award for critical journalism.

Glick on Middle East journalism

“One of the greatest problems for international journalists covering the Middle East is that people who serves as guides for journalists are often affiliated with Islamic terrorists seeking to turn for foreign visitors against Israel,” Glick said.

On Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Columbia

“Perhaps the central reason that Ahmadinejad’s message, and the hundreds of thousands of voices echoing his call throughout the world, are so dangerous is because the Free World is making precious little effort to assert its own message,” Glick said.

On Israel’s unique position in the global jihad

“Our enemies — whether Shiite or Sunni — are followers of a totalitarian ideology based on Islam, which tells them that Allah wishes to rule the world through them. Israel is a central front in this war. Given the weakness of Western support for the Jews, jihadists see attacking Israel as a strategic tool for eroding the West’s ideological defenses and shoring up their supporters throughout the world.”

This satellite presentation is a hot topic that will likely spark spirited discussion, Rabbi Deborah said.

“Global terrorism is one of the most important topics of our time,” she said. “B’nai Vail is presenting Caroline Glick to increase perspective, and create a forum for open dialogue on Israel’s unique perspective in the Global Jihad.”

The program is broadcasted from New York and will be aired via live satellite. The audience will have the opportunity to direct questions to Caroline Glick and participate in the conversation via satellite.
