Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) President Morton Klein issued the following release:
The horrific terrorist attacks yesterday at the airport in Istanbul, Turkey, and elsewhere this week are yet another tragic reminder that the U.S. administration, Congress, all Muslim religious and political leaders, and the world must finally get serious about combatting radical Islamist terrorism. It’s long past time to acknowledge the truth that radical Islamist terrorism is the problem – and that the problem is not gun control, “Islamophobia,” or unspecified “extremism”.
The common thread of the vast majority of terrorist attacks in the U.S., Turkey, France, Belgium, Africa, Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, Israel, Yemen, England, Bangladesh, Germany, Philippines, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Australia and elsewhere is that they are committed by radical Islamist terrorists frequently yelling Allahu Akbar. The common thread is not that there is a gun control problem in all these countries. It is painful and even ludicrous to see the U.S. Congress, our Administration and the media almost exclusively discussing gun control and not the primary source of most of this Islamist terrorism-namely radical Islamist Jihadist terrorism. Here are some of the steps we should take to seriously address the real problem:
(1) The U.S. administration must reverse its purge from our security services of vital information about the radical Islamist ideology that we are combatting. The FBI, CIA, and all U.S. security services must be provided with tools and information about radical Islamist ideology to properly question, follow-up with and apprehend potential Islamist terrorists.
(2) We must support Muslim Reformists such as Egyptian President Gen. Abdul Fateh al-Sisi, who called for Muslim religious officials to lead a “religious revolution” to stop Muslims throughout the world from killing and causing destruction. We need to insist that Muslim political and religious leaders throughout the U.S. and throughout the world must join the reformers’ ranks, and announce to their congregations, constituents and on every available mechanism on social media that all forms of violence against innocents, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and innocent Muslims are wrong and must end. All mosques around the world must develop programs to teach this.
(3) The U.S. administration should discontinue its policy of limiting groups of concern to “ISIL” (the Islamic State in Syria and the Levant) and al Qaeda. It’s time to acknowledge that there is a much larger problem – radical Islamist ideology that includes the Muslim Brotherhood, Iran and Iranian-funded groups, Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah, Fatah, ISIS’s incarnations throughout the world including both inside and outside of the Levant, Boko Haram, and much more.
(4) It’s time to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws, and halt the immigration of those whom U.S. security experts have testified cannot be properly vetted and will be infiltrated by terrorists. In addition, the prohibitions on asking immigrants about their ideology must end.
(5) We need to do everything possible to stop the flow of money and materials to terrorists – including by imposing new sanctions on Iran (which has violated the Iran deal and has increased its funding to and supply of weapons to terrorist organizations), ending funding to the Palestinian Authority, conditioning funding to other regimes (such as Pakistan) to assure they will combat and not support terror organization, and by increasing the sorties against ISIS, destroy ISIS Capitol Raqaa and bombing ISIS’s oil supplies and other supplies.
(6) We need to end the insanity of releasing from incarceration terrorists who are likely to commit terror again (including hardcore al Queda terrorists in Gitmo and Arab Palestinian murderers of innocent Jews in Israeli prisons).
(7) It’s time for the world to stop blaming Israel when Israel responds to Arab terrorism. One of the ISIS terrorists in Turkey’s airport yesterday detonated a suicide bomb after he was shot and lying on the ground. This should remind us that terrorists are often capable of wreaking damage even after they are supposedly incapacitated. We should stop second-guessing those who act in good faith to forestall potential danger or additional danger from a terrorist. And we should stop differentiating between terrorism directed at innocent Israelis and terrorism directed at other innocents throughout the world.
(8) We need to stop the cries of “Islamophobia” that follow every terrorist attack by a radical Islamist and are heard at other times. The fear of being called “Islamophobic” or a “bigot” makes people hesitate to call the authorities when they see suspicious activity, and keeps us from stopping terrorist attacks and deaths.
(9) Instead of holding sit-ins over gun control, Congress should focus on real steps to counteract the dangers of radical Islamist ideology and terrorism.
Finally, we need to acknowledge and face the seriousness of the problem, and understand that radical Islamist terrorism is the greatest danger to the world since Naziism. The death toll and injuries caused by radical Islamists continues to mount.
